The Black & Decker Mouse Sander is perfect for any tight space. It’s designed with a three-position grip, enabling you to control sanding in hard-to-reach places and navigate through them without too much fuss, giving you much more control. In addition, the 1.2-amp motor produces 14,000 orbits per minute, enough for any detailing/finish job. 

The microdust collection box helps keep a workspace clean while you work, but it doesn’t catch a lot of sanding dust. I wouldn’t expect miracles, especially for this price. It’s, however, super easy to empty. So, if you’re after a dust-free work environment, check the Festool DTS 400 REQ model, but keep in mind that it doesn’t come cheap. 

It’s not a heavy-duty machine, and it’s not meant to be. But if you don’t overwork it, it will do its job. The compact size and lighter weight mean this detail sander is super easy to control. The interchangeable detail finger attachment is excellent for tight areas like between railings or for small, enclosed surfaces such as in furniture.

Well, because out of 5, it includes 3 detailing sanding options(a detail sander, a finger sander, and a contour sander! ) plus a random orbital and 1/4 finishing sander.

All you need to finish any DIY project. Furthermore, the cordless design means that you can reach tight places without worrying about power outlets and a cord getting in the way.

The unit itself has a good weight and a great feel to it. It’s well-balanced in hand and easy to control without much hand/wrist fatigue. Not too heavy, but on the other hand, it’s got some weight to it, which helps with better, faster sanding.

It has a variable speed controlled by a dial on the side. The 6 (speed) levels and anything in between will let you adjust it to any sanding application, from being pretty aggressive on the rougher surface to gentler on the edges of the trim using the finger sander.

However, as I mentioned before, this is the case regardless of the brand/price of the sander.

The pad is Velcro-type, allowing for quick paper changing. Something to keep in mind: make sure you buy sandpaper that fits the pad’s hole pattern to ensure proper dust removal. Most of the ones available in the shops have a different hole pattern or are too short.

It has a dust port to hook it up with a shop vac or other dust removal system. Definitely a bonus. Especially for this price. It doesn’t come with a dust bag, though I think it should. It’d greatly improve to reduce the sanding dust that it blows everywhere otherwise.

Overall, it’s an excellent detail sander for quickly doing small furniture refinishing jobs and detailing on a budget.

Ryobi P401 One+ 18V Corner Cat Finishing Sander

The P401 is one of the cordless detail sanders on the list, but it’s still a great little detail sander that will produce good results. It uses an 18V battery to power its delta-shaped sanding pad and goes at 11,000 OPMs.

It’s part of the 18+ Ryobi cordless tools family, so it’s worth checking out if you use other cordless Ryobi tools. The charge lasts quite a long time and recharges quickly, too! This will mostly depend on your line of work.

This compact detail sander comes with a dust port on the side, so you can install a vacuum hose via the attachment for easy cleaning in no time. However, the attachment bit is not included, which is a shame. 

This sander is nicely designed and well-made. It has a comfortable grip and a sturdy body, even if the materials are not the best quality.

It fits small hands comfortably and works smoothly. If you already have the battery and charger, it’s great value for money.

There are 3 sanding sheets included but no battery or charger. So, if you don’t own any cordless Ryobi tools, I would check other models, like the small WEN 6301 model, as the cost will add up if you buy them separately.
