Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s all about using cozy layers, earthy colors, and natural touches to create the perfect seasonal vibe. Here are a few easy ways to bring the magic of autumn indoors!

1. Layer in Cozy Textures

Add instant warmth by layering different textures! Think burlap, jute, and wood alongside softer fabrics like flannel or wool. Something as simple as draping a flannel scarf over a table or placing a burlap runner on your mantel gives a snug, rustic feel without a lot of fuss.

2. Use Nature’s Bounty

Bring a bit of the outdoors in! Pinecones, acorns, dried corn, and colorful leaves all add that earthy autumn vibe. Take a quick stroll to collect a few fallen branches or dried florals, and mix in mini pumpkins or gourds to give your space that cozy, harvest-time look.

3. Play with Warm, Earthy Colors

Fall is the season for rich reds, deep oranges, warm browns, and little touches of gold. For a rustic look, stick with an earthy color palette to keep everything feeling natural and grounded. And for a little something extra, try mixing in dark tones like plum or olive green.

4. Add Seasonal Scents

Nothing says fall like the smell of pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, or vanilla. A few scented candles or essential oils around your decor can set that autumn mood instantly. Your home won’t just look like fall – it’ll smell like it, too!

5. Add a Soft, Warm Glow

Fairy lights, small lanterns, or candles are perfect for creating that magical fall glow. Try adding LED tea lights or fairy lights inside jars, vases, or wreaths. It’s a small touch that makes the space feel instantly cozier, especially as the evenings get longer and darker.

6. Repurpose and Upcycle

Fall is the perfect time to get creative! Use mason jars, old wine bottles, or wooden crates as part of your decor. Even a quick coat of paint on an old frame or vase can turn it into a chic fall accent. You’d be surprised at how these little touches make a big difference!

7. Embrace the Harvest Look

Don’t forget that fruits and veggies make great decor, too! Small pumpkins, gourds, apples, and chestnuts bring in that warm, farmhouse feel. Display them in baskets or bowls, or even add them to wreaths or garlands for that full-on harvest vibe.

8. Get Creative with Wreaths

Who says wreaths are only for doors? Use them as table centerpieces, or place mini wreaths around candles or jars to create little accents around the house. They’re an easy way to add that rustic charm wherever you want.

These tips will make your home feel as warm and cozy as a fall afternoon. So grab a cup of cider, get decorating, and let the autumn magic unfold! 🍂

Speaking of easy fall decor, one month into the season, I finally found a moment to give my mantel a little seasonal vibe – better late than never, right? This quick and simple idea is something you can easily recreate for any space in your home. I repurposed a wooden vase holder I made a while back to frame my collection of mason jars, filling them with charming fall finds – some bought, some foraged, and some handmade.

If you’d like to try making your wooden holder to create that rustic, framed look, I’ve included a quick tutorial for you down below!

Tools and materials

  • Glass mason jars (I used four)
  • LED fairy lights (optional, but a must for that cozy sparkle)
  • Fake or real maple leaves
  • Faux ivy pick
  • Faux apples and berries
  • Spiky chestnuts and shelled hazelnuts
  • Twine and burlap ribbon
  • Dried corn
  • Wooden mushroom
  • Oil lamp
  • Moss balls
  • Small wreaths

How I Styled My Fall Jars

I started with four mason jars, each with its own little fall story inside. I filled them with dried corn kernels (popcorn!), pinecones, faux apples, and shelled hazelnuts to keep that warm, earthy vibe. Fairy lights found their way into a few jars, too—I couldn’t resist adding a bit of twinkling magic.

Each jar turned out unique. Here’s the breakdown:

Jar 1: A mix of vibrant fake maple leaves and a strand of fairy lights for that golden autumn glow.

Jar 2: Pinecones paired with tiny faux apples for a rustic woodland feel.

Jar 3: Dried corn, and I originally wanted to add acorns, but despite my best efforts, it turns out our neighborhood squirrels have been on quite the gathering spree! Acorns vanished, but shelled hazelnuts came to the rescue – and they look just as good.

Jar 4: Spiky chestnuts I picked up on a recent forest stroll, with acorn caps (all I could find, thanks to our furry friends!) and some fake berries.

To finish each jar, I wrapped burlap and twine around the necks, adding that rustic touch that just says “fall cozy.”

With the jars nestled in my wooden frame, I layered a soft bed of moss and topped it with some wood slices. Small glass vases got a pop of color with dried maple leaves my son collected on a recent walk, while mini wreaths, moss balls, and vibrant berries made the faux concrete candle holders pop with texture and color.

To complete the look, I added an autumnal faux ivy pick, a wooden mushroom, and a few sprigs of dried wheat. A couple of pumpkins, plus my well-loved aged metal oil lamp, added just the right touch of that classic autumn farmhouse charm.
